History
Ensign-Reynolds Burner Company, Inc., was founded in 1907 by Mr.W.B. Ensign and Mr. Reynolds. They manufactured Industrial Compressors and Burner Equipment. In the early 1930's Ensign-Reynolds agreed to sell the company to Consolidated Edison and was the gas burner equipment division. However, in the late 1930's the Justice Department informed Consolidated Edison that it was either in the gas distribution business or the gas equipment business and that it would have to diverst itself from one or the other. By this time Mr. Reynolds was ready to retire, so W.B. Ensign decided to buy the company back himself.

In 1938 Ensign applied for a patent on a new type of burner. This burner used corrugated stainless steel ribbons in various patterns to distribute the gas along the burner. On August 6, 1940 Ensign was granted the patent for the first ribbon burner. This revolutionized the combustion industry. With a more controllable and powerful flame, as a result better burners were developed for a wide assortment of applications.

The company was purchased by its present owners, Mondial International Corporation in 1977. Its founder, Mr. Suren Fesjian, CEO of the Mondial Group, reorganized Ensign into ERB-Ensign Ribbon Burners LLC.
